Ariana Grande is sharing more details about her forthcoming album Petal.
On Thursday, May 7, the pop star posted an Instagram Reel where she provided more insight into the vision behind the record.
Grande, 32, yelled "surprise" to a group of people at the beginning of the black-and-white video, which looks like a vintage film reel.
She then noted that the album is "basically about something that is full of life growing through the cracks of something that is cold and hard and challenging."
“It's kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments, whether it's my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me,” added Grande. “I could be talking about one thing, sharing something, and people could use it however they want and apply it to their own lives.”
The "We Can't Be Friends" hitmaker said Petal is “a little feral.”
“It's definitely from a place I've been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before," said Grande. “This kind of just feels like, f--- it.”
"more about petal," she captioned the post.
In April, Grande announced her eighth studio album Petal ahead of her upcoming Eternal Sunshine Tour, which kicks off in June.

In a statement at the time, she explained the album's title, noting that Petal represents "something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging."
Earlier in the month, Grande shared a series of Instagram photos, which showed her working in the studio.

In the Instagram Carousel, the Wicked star could be seen in front of a sound mixing board, with a microphone and looking through audio files on a computer.
The final image featured her in a chair with her arms up in a triumphant pose.
Grande released her last album Eternal Sunshine in March 2024 and shared a deluxe version of the album one year later.
Grande will kick off her Eternal Sunshine Tour on June 6, her first live dates since the Sweetener World Tour in 2019.
In November 2025, she spoke to Interview magazine about how Eternal Sunshine and her role in Wicked helped her “reclaim certain pieces” of herself.
“I've just been taking baby steps towards healing my relationship to music and touring, and I think my time with Glinda and with acting really helped me build the strength to be able to do that …I think it just held some traumas for me before, and I feel those dissipating, and that is such an extraordinarily beautiful thing,” said Grande at the time.
