Dash Crofts, one half of the 1970s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts, has died at 87.
Crofts, born Darrell George Crofts, died from heart failure, his daughter Lua Crofts Faragher confirmed to the New York Times on Thursday.
Seals and Crofts' longtime producer Louie Shelton paid tribute to Crofts on social media. Shelton had shared that Crofts was going through "some health issues" days before his death.
"Sad to hear our dear brother and partner in music has passed away today. Sending love and prayers to all his family and many fans. R.I.P. my brother," he wrote early Thursday morning.
Crofts rose to prominence in the 1970s with his musical partner Jim Seals, hitting their stride as a duo after years of playing in other groups. The two first met after joining rockabilly band Dean Beard and the Crew Cats in Texas. They later played with rock band The Champs, already known for their 1958 hit "Tequila."

Seals and Crofts released hit albums like Summer Breeze and Diamond Girl, which were certified Platinum and Gold, respectively. In 1974, the duo released the controversial anti-abortion track "Unborn Child" shortly after the Supreme Court issued its decision in Roe v. Wade.
Following the release of 1980's The Longest Road, the duo put their musical partnership on hold — although they continued to collaborate at gatherings for their shared Baháʼí faith throughout the '80s. By the end of the decade, Seals and Crofts reformed and toured in North America for several years until disbanding again in 1992.

Crofts released his first and only solo record, Today, in 1998. He reunited with Seals for a final album as a duo, Traces, in 2004.
The pair's families have continued their musical legacy throughout the years. Their daughters Juliet Seals and Amelia Crofts, alongside Genevieve Bogan, daughter of their engineer Joey Bogan, created The Humming Birds in 2010. The Humming Birds, a Bahá'í musical devotional group, released an EP in 2012. Meanwhile, Crofts' daughter Lua Crofts and Seals' cousin Brady Seals created tribute band Seals and Crofts 2 in 2018.
Crofts is survived by his second wife Louise Crofts, his children Lua, Faizi and Amelia, and eight grandchildren.
