After making her long-awaited return to the screen with Marty Supreme, Gwyneth Paltrow officially has another buzzy project under her belt.

The actress is set to star in a movie adaptation of author Belle Burden’s New York Times bestselling memoir, Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage. The movie marks Paltrow’s second project after her 12-year hiatus from acting, and will see her pulling double duty as an executive producer for the adaptation alongside Stacey Sher, while Heidi Schreck will adapt the script.

What will Strangers be about?

Strangers will follow the plot of Burden’s memoir, whose events begin in March 2020. Paltrow will star in the movie as Burden.

According to Deadline, the film will follow Burden, who is “safe and secure with her family at their house on Martha’s Vineyard, navigating the early days of the pandemic together—building fires in the late afternoons, drinking whisky sours, making roast chicken. Then, with no warning or explanation, her husband of 20 years announced that he was leaving her. Overnight, her caring, steady partner became a man she hardly recognized. He exited his life with her like an actor shrugging off a costume. In Strangers, Burden revisits her marriage, searching for clues that her husband was not who she always thought he was.”

The memoir’s publisher, The Dial Press, added that the book “revisits her marriage, searching for clues that her husband was not who she always thought he was. As she examines her relationship through a new lens, she reckons with her own family history and the lessons she intuited about how a woman is expected to behave in the face of betrayal.”
