A new collectible tied to the release of "Mortal Kombat 2" is set to hit theaters nationwide this week, giving fans a larger-than-life way to enjoy their popcorn.
Beginning May 8, major theater chains including AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas will offer a 130-ounce popcorn bucket designed as a wearable-style helmet inspired by the film’s antagonist, Shao Kahn. The collectible features a detailed sculpt with brushed metal-style horns, a skeletal faceplate and battle-worn textures intended to mirror the character’s iconic look.
The design includes a two-piece structure, with a base compartment for popcorn and a removable plastic helmet that can be worn or displayed. Theater operators are marketing the item as a premium collectible tied to the film’s release.
Different chains are offering variations of the product. AMC is promoting its version as the “I am Shao Kahn” collectible, while Regal will carry a similar helmet container. Cinemark is offering a separate themed “Clapper” popcorn bucket priced at $29.95. Marcus Theatres will also sell the 130-ounce Shao Kahn helmet version.

In addition to the popcorn buckets, theaters are releasing related merchandise, including a Grippr cup topped with a character-themed figure.
Movie-themed popcorn containers have become a growing trend in recent years, often debuting alongside major franchise releases and serving as both concessions and collectibles. Industry analysts say such items can drive early ticket sales and increase per-customer spending during opening weekends.
"Mortal Kombat 2" is expected to draw strong turnout from fans of the long-running video game franchise, with theaters rolling out promotional items in tandem with the film’s debut.
