Kimberly Williams-Paisley opened up about her 23-year marriage to husband Brad Paisley

She revealed that the secret to their lasting relationship comes down to two simple words

The couple tied the knot in 2003 and share two sons

Kimberly Williams-Paisley says the secret to her long-lasting marriage to husband Brad Paisley comes down to two simple words.

"I heard Jamie Lee Curtis say recently, the secret is ‘Don't leave.’ I thought that was actually brilliant," Kimberly, 54, told Fox News Digital. "Yeah, just know there's gonna be ups and downs and don't give up. That's our secret."

The Father of the Bride star said she and Brad, 53, are also intentional about carving out downtime to spend together to keep their connection strong.

"We find time, we have to be deliberate about it," Kimberly explained. "And I mean, we're married 23 years now. And there's times when we're busier and times when we’re not. And right now I'm busier, and he's about to start a tour this summer, which will make him busy. But when we have the downtime, we really make the most of it."

The 911: Nashville actress also revealed that the country music singer gave her a "romantic" gift for their 23rd wedding anniversary, which they celebrated on March 15.

"He wrote me a letter that was really sweet, and that was a surprise, because he hadn't written me a romantic letter in a long time, and it meant a lot to me," she told Fox News Digital.

Kimberly and Brad tied the knot in 2003 and share two sons, William "Huck" Huckleberry, 19, and Jasper, 17.

During an April 15 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Kimberly reminisced about her and Brad's "surprise wedding" — guests learned at their rehearsal dinner that the pre-nuptial celebration was actually the main event.

"I came down the aisle in a denim coat with my ribbon bouquet from my bridal shower," the actress recalled. "And then we just changed it out. And I took off the coat, and I had this wedding dress on. And I changed out the bouquet."

She said that in light of the surprise nature of the nuptials, the ceremony didn't have some of the traditional formalities.

"When I came down the aisle, everyone was sitting down. My husband was chewing gum," Kimberly explained.

While chatting with Live co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Kimberly also joked about how Brad first became smitten with her on screen when he went to see Father of the Bride — with his then-girlfriend — in a movie theater in 1991, 10 years before he met Kimberly in real life.

When Ripa and Consuelos, both 55, noted how outlandish it was that Brad developed a crush on a woman in a movie and ultimately married her, Kimberly said she appreciated what she described as the "sexy" energy of it all.

"But that's also how confident he is," she added. "He's, like, watching a movie and he's like, 'Not this girl. That girlon the screen.' And he did it!"
