Kirsten Dunst is joining *The Housemaid *film sequel.

The Oscar-nominated actress will join Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming film *The Housemaid's Secret*, which is based on the second book of Freida McFadden's series of the same name.

In the second book, housemaid Millie (played by Sweeney) takes on another job, overseeing the penthouse of a wealthy couple, Wendy and Douglas Garrick, in the city. However, after Millie learns she is unable to see her employer, Mrs. Garrick, she grows wary of Mrs. Garrick's husband.

Per a plot description of the new film, Millie will "discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.”

"She is an icon," she continued in the statement. "Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.”

Paul Feig will return to direct *The Housemaid's Secret,* alongside screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book. Sweeney and Michele Morrone, who appeared in the first film as landscaper Enzo, will also return for the sequel. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who starred in *The Housemaid*, aren't currently expected to reprise their roles as the Winchesters, as the movie focuses on a new family.**

When asked by * *if she and Seyfried would be interested in returning for more *Housemaid *films, Sweeney said, "I think that we'll just have to wait and see. I hope that the audience loves the movies just like we love the books, and we can continue to hopefully share that love within more of the films."

Despite her character not returning for the second book, Seyfried, meanwhile, would be game for another *Housemaid *movie appearance. "Oh yeah, absolutely [I'd do more films]," she said.

"Listen, if it doesn't do well, you can call it off, but if it does, well, it's absolutely a franchise. I didn't sign on for anything but this one because my story ends, but they know that if they make another one, I'll be a part of it, because I had so much fun with Paul [Feig, director]."**

Months after suggesting “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?" during a *Town & Country *interview, she joined the cast of the movie that earned over $900 million worldwide. *The Housemaid*, meanwhile, has grossed over $395 million worldwide.**
