Former President Barack Obama's foundation sent support to Bad Bunny ahead of the Latin artist's Super Bowl LV halftime performance in a post that also appeared to counter recent criticism of the show's headliner.
The post from the Obama Foundation highlights the former president's favorite Bad Bunny songs over the years, including "La Difícil" and "Tití Me Preguntó," which Obama previously listed in his yearly roundups of music.
The post's caption appears to make a nod toward recent criticism of Bad Bunny as the halftime performer, stating "From one natural-born US citizen to another, have a great Benito Bowl!"
Obama's U.S. citizenship status was repeatedly questioned before, during and after his presidency, including conspiracy theories that he was born outside the country and his birth certificate is fake. The Hawaii State Health Department released a copy of his original birth certificate in April 2011.
Similar comments have been directed toward Bad Bunny, who is a U.S. citizen and was born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Puerto Rico in 1994, as the Super Bowl halftime performer choice has people divided.
While some fans are tuning in specifically for Bad Bunny's halftime show, others have pledged to avoid the halftime show altogether. Bad Bunny's music, which is performed in Spanish, has been a point of contention. While the singer recently said viewers do not need to learn Spanish to enjoy the show and only need to dance, some viewers are still wary of tuning in.

There is also an alternate halftime show planned by Turning Point USA, the conservative organization cofounded by late activist Charlie Kirk, to compete with Bad Bunny's performance. The show has been dubbed the "All-American Halftime Show" and features Kid Rock as the headliner.
Bad Bunny is set to perform following the completion of the second quarter of Super Bowl LX. NBC will broadcast Super Bowl LX and the halftime show, and it will also be streamed live on Peacock.
