Chase Infiniti became very well acquainted with Leonardo DiCaprio's face in one of their first meetings for *One Battle After Another*.

In a conversation with **'s *The Awardist* podcast, the *Presumed Innocent* actress details shaving her on-screen father's face during the early stages of production for Paul Thomas Anderson's thrilling drama.

"I believe that was my first camera test, but that was like the fourth time I had met him," Infiniti tells *Awardist* host Gerrad Hall. "I was holding an electric razor. They were testing his facial hair and he had like a really long, really long kind of — I don't remember if it was like a mustache-goatee situation. And I know that Paul was like, 'We should kind of adjust it that way.'"

She continues, "They had somebody there who was doing it originally and then Paul handed [the razor] to me and was like, 'Okay, shave his face.'"

Infiniti was shocked by the unusual assignment. "I was like, 'What?'" she remembers. "And he was like, 'No, just go shave his face and just have a conversation.'"

The exercise ultimately helped establish a rapport between DiCaprio and Infiniti, who respectively play ex-revolutionary stoner Bob Ferguson and his daughter Willa in the film. "I couldn't tell if it was maybe me or maybe Willa," she explains. "It was kind of a gray zone. And so I just tried to go with the flow as much as possible."

The actress says that she was "shaking" as she attempted to "make it even" on both sides. "I was like, 'Yeah, no, it looks even. I think it looks even!'" she remembers. "And it ended up being crooked, by the way."

Fortunately, Infiniti says that she immediately connected with DiCaprio and their costar Regina Hall.

"When I first got to meet them, [they] greeted me with so much love and [were] so kind," she recalls. "And they really were just excited to work. And that excitement fueled me because of course I'm walking into that room a bit nervous, but excited to jump at the chance to play this part for an hour, however long the callback would last. And yeah, I think that the chemistry, especially with the two of them, was instant. It was magical, truly, between us."

The actress also says that firing a machine gun proved more difficult than she expected.

"I had never fired anything, so I was very nervous going into firearms training for it," she explains. "[The gun is] also incredibly heavy."

Infiniti's machine gun moment in the film echoes an earlier scene in which her on-screen mother, Perfidia (Teyana Taylor), fired a similar weapon while pregnant with Willa. "When we had shot that, Teyana had already done hers, but I hadn't seen anything of it, so I didn't know that it was going to be almost a mirror image between the two of them until I saw it on the screen," she explains. "And I was like, 'Whoa, that's so cool.'"

The actress was mildly annoyed to hear the ease with which her on-screen mom carried the weapon. "[Teyana] said, 'Yeah, that gun was so heavy, but it was great because I could rest it on my stomach,'" she remembers. "I was like, 'I didn't have that! I couldn't rest it on anything!' I had to sit there and hold it up while my stance was so wide and so strong and grounded. Because if I'm not secure everywhere else, I will get knocked over."

*One Battle After Another* is now playing in theaters and available to rent on digital platforms. Listen to Infiniti's full appearance on *The Awardist* above.**
