**This article contains spoilers for *Paradise *season 2, episode 7, "The Final Countdown."**

Xavier (Sterling K. Brown) completed his mission. He found his wife.

*Paradise* ended season 1 with Xavier discovering that the mother of his children, Teri (Enuka Okuma), was still alive, which meant he had to leave the bunker (and their kids) behind to find her. And in the Hulu drama's second season, we caught up with Teri to find out exactly how she survived the end of the world. "I had no clue that it was gonna get as crazy and wild as it has," Enuka Okuma tells **. "When I auditioned, I was like, 'Okay, I'm gonna be the wife of the head of the president's detail. So there'll be coffee scenes.'"

As for the season 2 deep dive into her character, she says, "It was a very pleasant surprise."

Over the course of the second season, viewers watched as Teri found her way into a group of people who planned to shelter inside a post office that would withstand what was coming. As a result, she spent years inside that post office, surrounded by strangers and a young boy, Bean (Benjamin Mackey), that she took in as her own. "She's a mother and when she locks eyes with little Bean and they hold onto each other for survival, she just instantly starts mothering," Okuma says.

But even filming those bunker scenes was a bonding experience, it seems. "We got to know each other real well," Okuma says with a laugh. "You're all shoved in a room, and we kind of ended up being our own little family, so it was our own little movie."

Eventually, Teri escapes that movie and reunites with Xavier. "There's very few things that could get Xavier Collins to leave his children alone in a bunker and I'd say Dr. Teri Rogers-Collins is probably the beginning and the end of that list," Sterling K. Brown tells EW. "That [reunion is] the definition of joy. Hopefully our audience feels that release in these two people coming back together again."

Their reunion is in no part thanks to Gary (Cameron Britton), the once-sweet man who'd fallen so in love with Teri that losing her drove him to shoot his friend. "I had no idea where it was going," Okuma says of that particular story. "But what I think is interesting about that is he's a good guy. We know he's a good guy. And I still think he's a good guy. But it's a moment of showing what we're all capable of, and it could happen to even the nicest guy."**

When Gary tries to keep Bean from Teri, she and Xavier have to confront him in a tense scene that features Xavier nearly shooting Gary at least three times. "I gotta tell you, when I was reading it, I thought, 'Well this is when Teri goes,'" Okuma says. "Because, to me, to finally get them together for her to slip through his fingers? I'm like, 'That's great storytelling.' But I'm glad it didn't happen."

Instead, Teri grabs Bean, grabs Xavier — who's still caring for Annie's (Shailene Woodley) baby — and the two are now headed to get their other children as the season barrels toward its finale. "Sterling is going around telling everybody, 'Yeah, we both come back with white children,'" she says.

Brown does indeed add, "Both of us have brought white children into the family. Nobody can be mad at the other person. It's all good."
