The royal family of Brunei has a new addition

Prince Mateen and Princess Anisha have welcomed their first baby together

A statement from Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's office said the child arrived on Sunday, Feb. 8

Prince Mateen and Princess Anish of Brunei are taking on a whole new royal role: as parents!

On Feb. 8, the royal couple welcomed their first child, a daughter. The news was first announced by the Bruneian outlet, RTB News.

A message from the outlet, translated into English, said, "In compliance with the orders of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, hereby announces that His Royal Highness Princess Anisha Rosnah binti Adam, wife of His Royal Highness Prince Muda 'Abdul Mateen ibni His Royal Highness Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, with the permission of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, has safely given birth to a daughter on Sunday, 20th, Syaaban, 1447 corresponding to 8th, February, 2026, at 8.50 am."

"Following this release, 17 cannon shots were fired in the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman," it added about the celebratory pageantry.

Istana Nurul Iman is the official residence of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Mateen's father and the ruler of Brunei.

The new baby girl was not born into the line of succession to the throne, as the Succession and Regency Proclamation, 1959, within Brunei's constitution stipulates that only males are eligible to enter.

Prince Mateen, 34, is one of the Sultan's 10 children and is currently fifth in line to the sultanate's throne. In October 2025, he and his wife, Princess Anisha, 31, announced that they were expecting their first child together.

"And then there were 3 🤲🏽," Mateen wrote below a romantic black and white snap, which showed him and Anisha holding hands on a terrace as she cradled her growing bump.

The couple tied the knot in a 10-day royal wedding in January 2024 and in January, celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

"2 ♥️," Prince Mateen captioned a set of snaps on Instagram on Jan. 13.

The first picture, shared in black and white, captured the couple sharing a hug from behind. They seemed to be on the sidelines of one of Mateen's polo matches and the prince had on a polo helmet personalized with "M" on the back.

The next shot, in color, showed the couple sitting in camp chairs in a river on a sunny day.
