Savannah Guthrie has once again returned to the *Today* show, following an unexpected, abrupt exit from the live program on Wednesday.

After 54-year-old Guthrie, whose mother Nancy Guthrie went missing in February from her Arizona home, left Wednesday's show mid-broadcast, the TV journalist returned Thursday to the *Today* studio and remained on the air throughout the episode.

"I know, I love *Legally Blonde*. I connect with this character and now we get to see her in high school," Guthrie said at the top of Thursday's live show, per **'s sister publication, PEOPLE. Guthrie noted that her outfit was similar to one worn by Reese Witherspoon's character, Elle Woods, in the film.**

Guthrie's appearance at the beginning of the show came just under a day after she exited the prior broadcast with about 30 minutes left in the program.

The anchor's cohost, Craig Melvin, announced her temporary exit on the air, telling viewers, "Savannah had to leave a little early. She will be right back here tomorrow though."

Upon Guthrie's return, the cohost fronted numerous segments from New York City, including one honoring a kindergarten teacher for national Teacher Appreciation Week, and another featuring a performance from the Tony-nominated *Schmigadoon *Broadway show.

FBI clarifies DNA evidence recovered from Nancy Guthrie's home is 'not new'

EW has reached out to a representative for the *Today* show for comment.

Guthrie's family's search for her missing mother has remained in national headlines for months, after the 84-year-old disappeared in the early morning hours of Feb. 1.

Both local authorities and the FBI have investigated the case, with no significant information related to Nancy's whereabouts uncovered to date. DNA evidence was recovered at Nancy's home, which authorities declared a crime scene days after she disappeared.
