Sherri Shepherd is revealing why she hasn’t appeared on her titular daytime talk show amid news of its cancellation.
On the night of Tuesday, Feb. 3, the host, 58, spoke out for the first time since it was revealed that Sherri will be ending after its fourth season concludes in the fall. In an Instagram post, Shepherd thanked those who have shown their support and explained why she is taking some time off from filming before further addressing the news on the show.
“Wow! I am completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for me and The @sherrishowtv,” she wrote in the caption. “You might’ve noticed that yesterday and today I was struggling because I wasn’t feeling up to speed. Well it turns out I have Covid. As soon as I feel better and return to the show, I will address all of the news that has come out.”

“Until then, I am truly grateful that SHERRI has made such an impact on you!” Shepherd continued. “See ya soon❤️ #sherrishepherd #sherrishowtv #grateful #itsnotover”
The post also featured a compilation of messages she has received in recent days.
“Sherri’s show was positive, funny and she genuinely was good at the job,” one read, along with another that said, “This saddens me. I watch Sherri every single day. I love her. 😩”
Someone else gushed: “Sherri and her team should truly be proud! They’ve done an amazing job during such a challenging period for cable television. Stay positive, keep your spirits high, and finish strong! It’s only upward from here!”
On Monday, Feb. 2, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury confirmed to PEOPLE that Shepherd’s Fox syndicated series was canceled.
“This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production — which has found strong creative momentum this season, or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd,” Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time. “We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”
Sherri, which is filmed at Chelsea Studios in New York City, will continue production on its fourth season, with the last episodes set to air this fall.

Shepherd — who won a Daytime Emmy in 2009 for The View, where she was a full-time co-host from 2007 to 2014 and later made a brief return — launched Sherri in September 2022. The show took the place of The Wendy Williams Show, which Shepherd had guest-hosted several times leading up to the change.
"I've always dreamed about this," Shepherd told PEOPLE in 2022, shortly after her own show was announced. "I always wanted something where I could make people laugh, that's always been my why, to make people feel good."
