- Lewis Pullman, son of *Spaceballs* star Bill Pullman, said he never met Mel Brooks while filming *Spaceballs 2*.

- Pullman said on *The View *that Brooks did, however, send him a sweet voice note.

- The actor told the cohosts that the sequel's writing is "so smart and so dumb at the same time."

*Spaceballs 2* actor Lewis Pullman — son of original *Spaceballs* star Bill Pullman — said that comedy legend Mel Brooks still hasn't entered his personal orbit, not even during production of the highly anticipated comedy sequel.

Pullman appeared on Friday's live episode of *The View,* during which cohost Sara Haines asked the *Testament of Ann Lee* star about recently wrapping production on *Spaceballs 2.* The sequel marks the onscreen return of Rick Moranis from a script cowritten by 99-year-old Brooks, who's also set to reprise his roles as Yogurt and President Skroob in the film.

"*Spaceballs* fans rejoiced when the legendary Mel Brooks announced that 40 years later, we're finally getting *Spaceballs 2*," Haines said of the continuation of the beloved* *1987 *Star Wars* satire. "Now, production is already wrapped. What was that like?"

The 32-year-old confirmed that "we just wrapped last Tuesday" on production of the project that sees the return of his father and OG star Daphne Zuniga, with Joy Behar inqiuring, "Was Mel there?" during the wrap-up.

"Mel didn't come out. He's a homebody, but he was definitely part of it. His spirit was there, he was part of the design of it," Pullman replied. "He launched us!" (** has reached out to representatives for *Spaceballs 2* studio Amazon, as well as a representative for Brooks for comment.)

Pullman then told the cohosts that he's yet to come face-to-face with Brooks.

"I still haven't met him, but when he sent me the role, I got a voice note from him. I wish you could frame a voice note. I couldn't believe it because I grew up watching that movie," he recalled. "That was one of my dad's movies I was allowed to watch growing up, and I remember seeing *Star Wars*, and I was like, 'Why did they remake *Spaceballs* without all the jokes?'"

The *Thunderbolts** star called *Spaceballs* territory "sacred grounds" to act upon.****"The writing is so smart and so dumb at the same time in the best way," he said of the sequel's story. "It's so intelligently designed!"

Besides Pullman, *Spaceballs 2 *also welcomes new additions like Josh Gad and Keke Palmer.

"After 40 years we asked, 'What do the fans want?' But, instead, we're making this movie," Brooks said in a prior video message announcing the sequel, before saying one of the film's iconic lines, "May the Schwartz be with you!"
