With great power, comes great responsibility... to make more *Spider-Man* movies starring Tobey Maguire?

It's certainly possible, at least if *The Batman: Part II* co-scribe Mattson Tomlin has his way. It all started in July, when a fan asked Tomlin on Twitter, "If asked to write a screenplay, would you have interest or a vision for your take on Spider-Man? If so, what do you find interesting about the character?"

At the time, Tomlin responded with an idea he has for Maguire reprise the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and to see his life as a family man.

"Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a *Spider-Man 4* where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films," he wrote.

Then, over the weekend, a different fan asked if there was "any movement" on a possible *Spider-Man 4*, and Tomlin responded, "Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a 'no' yet!"

Maguire first played the superhero role in Sam Raimi's 2002 box office juggernaut, *Spider-Man*, alongside Kirsten Dunst, who played love interest Mary Jane Watson; Willem Dafoe, who played villain Norman Osborn/Green Goblin; and James Franco as Peter's best friend and Norman's son, Harry Osborn.

Two massively successful sequels followed, both directed by Raimi: *Spider-Man 2* in 2004 and *Spider-Man 3* in 2007. Plans for a fourth film, set to be released in 2011, never crystallized. Fans of the web-wielding supe know that Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland have since taken up the mantle, though Maguire did technically reprise the role once more in 2021's *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, which famously featured all three Peters coming together in some multiversal shenanigans.

These surprise cameos gave some fans hope for more Maguire-era Spider-Man, but nothing has officially materialized. While Tomlin's tweet doesn't change that, it is somewhat encouraging (as he said himself, *technically*, it's not a "no"). Fans will just have to be patient to see if anything moves forward.

In the meantime, Tomlin has *The Batman: Part II*, which he co-wrote with director Matt Reeves. The film will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as the Caped Crusader and is slated for release in October 2027.

And, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, the fourth film in the Holland-starring Spidey entries, is currently slated for a July 31, 2026, release. Not much is known about what is in store for Peter Parker this time around, but in April 2025, Holland himself called the film a "fresh start" for the character.
