Pop sensation Tate McRae has shut down fan speculation about her starring in a Britney Spears biopic, telling Rolling Stone that she does not see herself as a fit for the role.

While her onstage persona “Tatiana” is bold and confident, McRae describes herself offstage as introspective and introverted. She credits her alter ego with allowing her to take on the larger-than-life energy required for touring arenas such as Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.

“I’m very introspective, very sensitive, very introverted,” she told Rolling Stone. “This persona I’ve created is my way of being this confident pop girl.”

Even as she explores her public identity, McRae maintains a strong connection to her personal growth, enjoying quiet moments reading poetry and reflecting on her music.

Moreover, the 22-year-old singer, whose third album So Close to What hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this year, emphasized that acting is not her strength and her appearance and voice differ too much from the pop icon.

“I don’t really act. I need to take an acting lesson before I ever consider doing anything,” McRae said. “Also, I feel like I look nothing like her, sound nothing like her, so I don’t know if I’d be a great fit.”

McRae has had a whirlwind year, completing her Miss Possessive arena tour, which grossed $111 million and sold over a million tickets globally. Despite her massive success, the singer admits that public attention has been challenging, particularly around her breakup with rapper The Kid LAROI.

“It was really scary and overwhelming,” she reflected in her Rolling Stone interview. “I didn’t realize how much it would affect me, the public knowing my private life—because no one knows the full story of anything, ever. I also hate people painting a situation that’s worse than it is.”

McRae’s hit single “Tit for Tat,” which fans speculated was inspired by the split, is her way of expressing personal experiences through music. “He’s going to write songs, and I’m going to write songs, and that’s our way of expressing ourselves,” she explained. “Once it’s out there, it’s not mine anymore.”
