- Peter Safran, a *Conjuring* franchise producer, teases "there'll be more to come" after *Last Rites*.

- HBO is currently developing a TV series, but Safran feels there's potential for both movies and TV.

- The executive producer praises the actors behind Judy Warren and Tony Spera, saying, "The feedback we got was they love those characters."

*The Conjuring: Last Rites* "was not a head fake," franchise producer Peter Safran tells **. It was very much the conclusion of the *Conjuring* movies, specifically the end of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson's reign as Lorraine and Ed Warren.

However, given the box-office success of that culminating movie, "I think that *Last Rites* shows that there is a lot of fuel left in the tank," he adds.

Safran spoke with EW this past Sunday at a Warner Bros. preview event for the *Supergirl* trailer launch. The producer, who's also the co-head of DC Studios, joined his counterpart James Gunn, the movie's director Craig Gillespie (*I, Tonya*), and star Milly Alcock (*House of the Dragon*) to meet with press and influencers.

THE CONJURING: LAST RITES - VERA FARMIGA as Lorraine Warren

When asked about the future of *The Conjuring*, Safran says, "It was the end of that particular version of the story with Patrick and Vera and *that* version of *The Conjuring*. There's so much more to it that we haven't dug into. So the truth is, I think there's really exciting ways to go with both film and television, frankly. It would be incredibly satisfying. People have been on this journey with us for a dozen years now. I think they want more."

*The Conjuring: Last Rites* introduced Mia Tomlinson as adult Judy Warren, as well as a cursed mirror that stems from Ed and Lorraine's very first case as paranormal investigators. Ben Hardy also portrayed Tony Spera, Judy's future husband.

"Nobody was looking at it like, 'Well, this is it. I want it to be over,'" Safran continues. "People fall in love with Patrick and Vera, and Ed and Lorraine. So I think there's a lot to do. The introduction, in a real way, of Judy and Tony, I think, people love. The feedback we got was they love those characters. So I think that there'll be more to come."

In the afterglow of *Last Rites* becoming the biggest horror premiere of the year, HBO made moves on a TV spinoff series. Nancy Won was hired to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, while Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires joined as writers. Story details are not currently known. Similarly, no additional movies have been announced at this time.

HBO found recent success in the TV horror business with the Stephen King-inspired *It: Welcome to Derry,* a prequel drama to the It movies. The series hit the No. 1 spot and was the streamer's most-watched series after its premiere.

*The Conjuring: Last Rites* is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
