The First Details About Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper’s 'Ocean’s 11' Prequel Have Arrived

Two of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers are joining forces for what’s likely to be the industry’s next big blockbuster. The Ocean’s Eleven prequel is on the way, courtesy of Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper.

The latest addition to the heist franchise has been in the works since 2022, but an update finally arrived at CinemaCon 2026.

Ryan Gosling, who was previously attached to star in the film, was swapped out for Cooper. The A Star Is Born actor will both act in and direct the film alongside Robbie.

Producer Josey McNamara previously said in 2023 that he couldn’t “say much” about the film, “but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”

As for what that experience will be like, here’s what to expect.

What is the film about?

Instead of centering the story around Danny Ocean, like in the original movies, Ocean’s 11 will follow his parents.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows—his parents,” Robbie teased during Warner Bros. 2027 slate at CinemaCon, according to Variety. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

The script is written by Carrie Solomon, who also penned the Netflix film A Family Affair starring Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

This Ocean’s reboot follows several films in the franchise, including the original Ocean’s Eleven starring the Rat Pack in 1960; Steven Soderbergh’s remake in 2001; Ocean’s Twelve in 2004; Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007; and the all-women-starring Ocean’s 8 in 2018.

When will it be released?

In April 2026, Variety reported that the movie is slated to start filming this year and is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2027.

It comes after years of work on the project. Deadline previously reported that the film had been in “active development” since 2022.

When reports of the project first surfaced in May 2022, it had not yet been greenlit. The outlet reported in August 2022 that Warner Bros. was looking to start production in spring 2023, but those plans ended up being postponed.

Who else is in the cast?

Robbie and Cooper are the only confirmed cast members for Ocean’s 11 so far. As for who’s behind the scenes: Robbie will also produce with husband Tom Ackerly through their company LuckyChap Entertainment. Cooper will also direct. Michelle Graham, Gary Ross, Olivia Milch, and McNamara will executive produce with Village Roadshow, per Deadline.
