A new age of *Tomb Raider* begins next year.

During the 2025 Game Awards, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios revealed two new Lara Croft-centric video games are coming — and there's a new actress behind the lead role.

First up, the developers revealed a first-look announcement trailer for *Tomb Raider: Catalyst*, the official next continuation of the gaming franchise.

It's unclear whether the story, which is set in Northern India, will be a direct continuation of the previous *Survivor* trilogy arc, which capped with 2018's *Shadow of the Tomb Raider*. Reps declined to comment. However, it's worth noting that Camilla Luddington (*Grey's Anatomy*) will not return as Lara Croft. Instead, Alix Wilton Regan (*Dragon Age: Inquisition*, *Mass Effect 3*) will be portraying the gunslinging adventure-seeker.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered

*Tomb Raider: Catalyst* is "set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them," according to a formal description. "When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain. As the ancient world collides with the present, Lara must decide who to trust among rivals and allies to prevent a catastrophe and protect a secret that could reshape the future."

The game has been in development since Crystal Dynamics first partnered with Amazon Game Studios, a relationship announced in 2022. The devs promise the largest *Tomb Raider* world yet, powered by Unreal Engine 5. A launch planned for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Until then, we'll first see Regan's take on Lara next year in the second game announced Thursday evening, *Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis*. This is a modern reimagining of the first *Tomb Raider* from 1996, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog with Unreal Engine 5. That title will arrive in 2026 on the same three gaming platforms as *Catalyst*.

"*Tomb Raider* stands among gaming's most beloved and enduring franchises, and we're thrilled to partner with Crystal Dynamics to bring two distinct Lara Croft adventures to players worldwide," Amazon Game Studios VP Christoph Hartmann said in a statement. "This innovative new chapter with *Tomb Raider: Catalyst*, and the thoughtful reinvention of the series' roots with *Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis*, perfectly exemplifies our commitment to supporting developers with bold creative visions. We're focused on delivering rich, story-driven experiences that resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers, strengthening our dedication to high-quality gaming experiences."

Crystal Dynamics Head of Studio Scot Amos noted of *Catalyst,* "We're crafting our most expansive and innovative *Tomb Raider* adventure yet." Flying Wild Hog CEO Michał Szustak then said about *Legacy of Atlantis*, "We’re expanding the universe while staying loyal to what fans have always loved."
