It seems insane that anyone would buy a 40-year-old woman pretending to be 26 to land an entry-level job at a big New York publishing house
because it is insane. And that’s part of Younger’s charm.

Created by Darren Star, the series took that premise and turned it into a warm, funny, occasionally wacky romantic comedy for seven seasons — a record for a TV Land original.

The reason Younger worked as well as it did (until the seventh season, which is best left unacknowledged) is largely due to the chemistry of the cast. If you’re missing the magic and mayhem that orbited around Empirical Publishing, you’re not alone.

That’s exactly why Entertainment Weekly is checking in with the Younger cast. Here's what the stars have been up to since the beloved series ended in 2021.

Sutton Foster (Liza Miller)

As Younger’s heroine Liza Miller, Broadway icon Sutton Foster had a tricky line to toe: The audience needs to believe she can pull off lying to nearly everyone in her life while, at 40 years old, she takes a publishing job under the guise of being 26.

She also needs to be likeable enough that we’re rooting for her success both professionally and personally. Foster’s charisma and knack for goofy physical comedy were essential in pulling that off.

“I was just so proud to be part of such a hopeful, optimistic show with so many incredible people,” Foster told EW in 2021. “I'm just so thrilled that so many people have tuned in and been a part of our world.”

The same charisma, humor, and commitment to the bit helped Foster make a big impression on Broadway as the title character in Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002). The role won her a Tony and made her a household name after years of working on and off Broadway in various productions.

Since then, the Georgia native has been nominated for six more Tonys — including for The Drowsy Chaperone, Shrek the Musical, and the musical adaptation of Little Women. She took home the prize a second time for her role as Reno Sweeney in the 2011 revival of Anything Goes.

Foster soon transitioned into a TV career, starring in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s short-lived small-town ballet dramedy Bunheads (2012–2013). Before that, her only substantial small-screen role was a brief run on Flight of the Conchords (2007).

Since Younger ended in 2019, Foster has returned to the stage, most notably in The Music Man alongside Hugh Jackman.

Foster has one daughter with ex-husband Ted Griffin, whom she divorced in 2024. She has since gone public with her relationship with Jackman.

Hilary Duff (Kelsey Peters)

As Kelsey, Hilary Duff helps Liza come clean about her double life, and though it takes a while, eventually the rift between them is, like, so yesterday. And in the end, Kelsey lands a true win: She gets to grow her own digital publishing company alongside Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. That is what dreams are made of.

Okay, a lot of that was song lyrics from Duff’s pop star days, but it does explain a lot about Liza and Kelsey.

Of course, Duff is best known for her starring role on Lizzie McGuire (2001–2004), which helped launch her to teen pop stardom. Her signature character also got a feature film in 2003. Years later, the series was set for a revival, but it was abruptly canceled due to creative differences.

The Disney Channel hit led to a string of big-screen roles for the rising star. Duff appeared alongside Frankie Muniz in Agent Cody Banks (2003) and was part of Steve Martin’s giant family in Cheaper by the Dozen (2003).

She also headlined A Cinderella Story (2003), Raise Your Voice (2004), The Perfect Man (2005), and Material Girls (2006) — alongside sister Haylie — before graduating to more adult fare in the military-industrial satire War, Inc. (2008) with John Cusack.

The born-and-bred Texan has continued her recording career, with five studio albums under her belt. More recently, she took the lead role in How I Met Your Father (2022–2023), which was canceled before it could reveal the answer.

Duff has one son with her first husband, former NHL player Mike Comrie. She married musician and producer Matthew Koma in 2019. The couple has three daughters together.

Peter Hermann (Charles Brooks)

As very tall book publisher Charles, Peter Hermann won Liza’s heart after several seasons of growing sexual tension. While the relationship ultimately didn’t work out, he leaves his family’s publishing empire for her to run while he attempts more creative pursuits.

Hermann kicked off his career with a bit part on the soap opera Guiding Light (1997–1998), but is perhaps best known for recurring roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2002–2022) and Blue Bloods (2012–2014). He’s been a regular guest star elsewhere for decades, making appearances in everything from 30 Rock (2007) to White Collar (2012).

On the big screen, the Yale grad has landed supporting roles in Paul Greengrass’ United 93 (2006) and the Clint Eastwood/Amy Adams baseball drama Trouble With the Curve (2012). He was most recently seen as one of Carrie Bradshaw’s suitors on And Just Like That

Hermann met Mariska Hargitay after joining the cast of SVU. The two married in 2004 and have three children.

Nico Tortorella’s Josh was known for his tattoos and his ability to make Liza swoon. Much to the relief of Team Josh, the series finale points to Liza rekindling things with her much younger ex.

Younger is Tortorella’s most notable role so far, though many may remember him from Scream 4 (2011) and the first season of Kevin Williamson’s serial killer series The Following (2013), starring Kevin Bacon.

Since Younger, Tortorella has popped up as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and a competitor on the celebrity edition, as well as a member of the main cast in The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020–2021).

Tortorella and longtime partner Bethany C. Meyers married in 2018 and have two children together.

As Diana — Liza’s blunt, snarky boss with the most enviable collection of statement jewelry on television — Miriam Shor stole every scene she was in.

Shor kicked off her career on stage, making a name for herself as Yitzhak in John Cameron Mitchell’s hit musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch in 1998. She reprised the role in the 2001 film adaptation, but soon moved to television, landing on The West Wing (2005), Damages (2007–2010), and The Good Wife (2012–2015).

The veteran actress appeared in Todd Haynes’ Emmy-winning miniseries adaptation of Mildred Pierce (2011) and booked a key role in the final season of The Americans (2018). In recent years, she’s been spotted in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) as well as Oscar darlings Maestro (2023) and American Fiction (2023).

Shor recently returned to television in Vince Gilligan’s highly anticipated sci-fi series Pluribus, alongside Rhea Seehorn.

She has been married to Justin Hagan since 2009, and they share two children.

Debi Mazar (Maggie Amato)

Liza simply would not survive without her best friend and roommate Maggie, and Younger was a better show for having an honest outsider’s perspective on Liza’s shenanigans. Maggie certainly never held back.

That no-nonsense attitude seems to come naturally for Debi Mazar, who has made a name for herself as a character actress going back decades. She first rose to showbiz prominence as a makeup artist for her friend Madonna.

From there, the native New Yorker found a niche with quintessential New York filmmakers. Her movie debut was as Henry Hill’s mistress in Goodfellas (1990), and she went on to appear in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever (1991) and Malcolm X (1992), as well as Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway (1994).

During that stretch, she landed two interconnected series regular gigs — first on Civil Wars (1991–1993), then reprising the character on the final season of L.A. Law (1993–1994).

After popping up in Batman Forever (1995), Empire Records (1995), and The Insider (1999), Mazar found a semi-permanent home as Vincent Chase’s publicist on Entourage (2004–2011). In 2009, she took a spin on the dance floor as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars.

Over the last few years, Mazar has been everywhere: a guest judge on World’s Worst Cooks, a celebrity panelist on Match Game, and as Medusa in the mythical, Jeff Goldblum-led comedy Kaos (2024).

In 2011, Mazar turned her love of cooking into a full-time gig when she and her husband Gabriele Corcos started their Cooking Channel series, Extra Virgin. It yielded two cookbooks and a spinoff, Extra Virgin Americana.

Mazar and Corcos have been married since 2002 and have two daughters together.

Molly Bernard (Lauren Heller)

Molly Bernard found her breakout role on Younger as Kelsey’s up-for-anything, PR maven best friend Lauren.

"[Lauren’s] just a weird, bright light — a strange, neon light," the actress told EW in 2021. “I think that a neon light is sometimes going to make your life a lot more interesting than an incandescent one. She’s given me that kind of confidence too. I want to just bottle that [attitude] up, put it into fairy dust, and give it to all.”

While Younger became her primary gig for several years, the actress also made a splash as the younger version of Judith Light’s character on Transparent (2016–2017), booked a recurring role on Chicago Med (2018–2020), and landed bit parts in The Intern (2015) and Sully (2016).

After Younger ended, Bernard made an appearance as Glen Powell’s ex-wife in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man (2023). She also made her Broadway debut in 2024 in the ensemble of Leslye Headland’s Cult of Love, sharing the stage with Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, and Mare Winningham.

Bernard married Hannah Lieberman in 2021, and the couple had a daughter in 2023.

Phoebe Dynevor (Clare)

She might be the Diamond of the First Water, Daphne Bridgerton, but before that, Phoebe Dynevor was known to Younger fans as Clare, Josh’s Irish baby mama.

Dynevor’s character joined the party in season 4, and while her relationship with Josh ultimately doesn’t pan out — even with that big trip to Ireland — it obviously changes Josh’s life forever.

The Manchester native began acting as a teenager, appearing in various U.K. series, including Waterloo Road (2009–2010) and Dickensian (2015–2016), a murder mystery featuring a whole smattering of Charles Dickens characters.

By 2020, she nabbed the part of Daphne in Bridgerton (2020–2022), then made the jump to film, earning acclaim in the high-finance relationship thriller Fair Play (2023) opposite Alden Ehrenreich. She headlined the globetrotting tech thriller Inheritance (2025) before going head-to-head with Diane Lane in Anniversary (2025), alongside Dylan O’Brien, Kyle Chandler, and Zoey Deutch.

She'll soon appear in a M. Night Shyamalan/Nicholas Sparks supernatural romantic thriller (you read that right), Remain, set for 2026, per Deadline.

The English actress got engaged to Cameron Fuller in 2024.

Charles Michael Davis (Zane Anders)

Though he didn’t pop up in Younger world until season 4, Charles Michael Davis made a quick impact as Zane, an ambitious editor from a rival publishing house who ends up in bed with Kelsey.

While he made an impression as Zane, Davis is perhaps better known as Marcel, leader of the vampires roaming around the French Quarter in the Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals (2013–2018).

Between those two main roles, the Ohio native found time for other small-screen work, appearing in a handful of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy (2013) as well as Chicago P.D. (2019) and For the People (2019). He later joined the cast of NCIS: New Orleans (2020–2021).
